Welsh Food and Drink Producers Hope to "Go Public" at Procurement Event- Full article
- Welsh food and drink producers will have the opportunity to move into the public procurement market with a special ‘Meet the Buyer’ event to be held in Carmarthen on Thursday (January 31st).
It is the first time an event of this kind specifically targeted at the public sector has been held in West Wales.
Organised by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Food and Market Development Division, the event will be opened by Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones.
Held at Trinity College’s Halliwell Centre, the event offers companies of all sizes the opportunity to present their products to potential new customers from the public sector.
Said the Minister, ”The public sector represents a sizeable market place for Welsh food and drink companies. With the help of Welsh Assembly Government run support programmes local food procurement has increased.
“I am sure this event will be of great benefit to those food and drink producers taking part as well as the organisations and public bodies seeking to source locally produced, high quality produce and services.”
A total of 27 companies - many of them True Taste award winners - will take part in the event offering a wide range of goods and services. Participating producers are drawn from several sectors of the food and industry including: dairy, fish, meat, vegetables, drinks, and distribution.
Among the public bodies represented at the event will be local authorities, NHS Trusts, colleges and universities, police, and the fire service.
